Steering Wheel

I finally found the steering wheel I wanted just a few weeks ago.  It has a 9 bolt pattern which looks the same as the Formuling wheel I took off.  Turns out it was a little different, but I was able to modify the hub to make it fit.  I also had to make an adapter for the horn button.   It took most of the morning, but I love the way it turned out.

Center Console

Tonight I was able to get the speakers mounted and wired into the center console.  I also got the seats and steering wheel mounted again.  Just for kicks, I took it for a short spin around the block.  It has not been tuned yet, so I took it very easy, but it felt good to drive it again after 2 years.  There are a few issues to work out, but nothing serious.

Stereo

The rear speaker tray is cut and mounted.  I have a pair of Polk Audio 5-1/4" coaxial speakers recessed into the plywood to give it a little depth.  I will eventually cover it with the same tweed as the headliner, but I don't have any of the material right now.  There is also a single 10" JL Audio sub under the tray.  Next up is the front speakers.

Stereo

Tonight I got the crossover and the 4 channel amp mounted under the front seats.  The wires were already in place but I did clean them all up and wire tie everything.  Tomorrow I will run power to the amp behind the back seat.  Then I need to make a package tray and mounts on the front firewall for the speakers up there.

Center Console

Over the weekend I was able to get the gearshift disassembled and re-greased.  I also polished the handle while I had it apart.  The lights in the gauges are also hooked up now.  Finally I sprayed a little rattle can red on the face of the console, just to see what it will look like.  The audio cables will be here tomorrow, so the stereo will be done very soon.

Center Console

With the new engine, I wanted to make sure I have a set of gauges to keep track of what is going on inside the motor.  So I took the time to run the wires for them as well as the power for the radio last night.  I also ran the reverse wire for the radio so I can put in a backup camera at some point and have it automatically come on when I put the car in reverse.

Engine Install

The engine is in the car and the top side is all done!  The only 2 things left to do are install the muffler and clean out the gas tank before hooking up the last of the fuel line.  I even took the time to run all the wires for the gauges and warning lights neatly.  So the back side of the motor and the under side of the package tray looks nice too.

Engine Break-in

After a couple years and countless hours in the shop, I have finally done the initial startup and break-in on my new motor.  For those that have not been following along, I built this 2276cc, machine work and all.  It has an A1 Sidewinder and dual 45mm Dellorto DRLAs.  I also built the hidden cable pulley linkage system.

Carbs

Here is a shot of the firewall side of the motor.  I have the cable connecting the 2 carbs together finished, installed and adjusted.  I still need to make up the cables and connector that goes from the peddle assembly back to the driver side carb.  I also need to make some slight modifications to the oil cooler exhaust tins.  The cross-over cable just hits it.

New Engine - Again

The exhaust, remote oil filter lines and thermostat are all done now.  The only thing left before starting the engine for the first time now is oil, filter and the oil pressure sender.  I think I am going to take the ignition components out of the car itself to use them on the engine stand for the initial start-up.  So maybe I will get it started this weekend.
